He began his career in Sweden as a development engineer in the commercial vehicle industry before studying for a PhD in Hybrid Electric Vehicles at Imperial College London, in collaboration with Iveco Truck. He subsequently moved to WMG as a post-doc on vehicle electrification, in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover, before joining AVL, holding several engineering and commercial management and senior leadership roles. After leaving AVL, Alan joined Syselek as a Director, where he now leads strategy and engagement. Syselek’s activities include the specification, development, and evaluation of high-complexity, automated vehicle systems with safety-critical controls, along with independent review and technical consulting.
In 2015, Alan setup and co-led AESIN’s ADAS and AV workgroup. He now co-leads AESIN’s Complex Systems Engineering workgroup and represents AESIN at the European CCAM Partnership and UK Automotive Council CAM workgroup, where he co-leads CAM Supply Chain activities.
Alan holds an undergraduate engineering degree from Edinburgh University, Masters and PhD degrees from Imperial College London, and an MBA from London Business School. He is a fellow of The IET and has co-authored more than 30 peer reviewed papers and patents.
